The charity explains that 'a small amount of medical knowledge and equipment' can make a difference. The organisation was set up in 2008 at Heriot-Watt University by Sam Abrahams and involved students from Edinburgh Napier University and The University of Edinburgh. The charity is managed by Sam Abrahams who is a full time employee of the charity and is assisted by a large voluntary workforce of students, with societies at the Robert Gordon University, Queen Margaret University, The University of Edinburgh and Heriot Watt University, Birmingham City University, the University of Nottingham, and Brunel University. The charity organises expeditions that run from June to September in Tanzania, Kenya, and Malawi where trained volunteers teach first aid in schools, community centres, and orphanages.
